211 Tower Exterior Lighting
Easy installation and control of exterior DMX lighting

In 2020, Alphabet City Development completed renovations on 211 Tower, an 8-story office building in Pittsburgh’s East Liberty neighborhood. Continuing to grow East Liberty’s status as a landmark destination in Pittsburgh, Alphabet City Development wanted to highlight the exterior of the building.
They chose SGM wash fixtures and BPI’s Miranda DMX controller. From a technology standpoint, this building’s system is typical of most exterior DMX lighting installations: it’s just a couple runs of fixtures terminating in an electrical room. The system runs off timeclocks year-round: the colors of the building change throughout the year to celebrate various holidays and observances, but it’s nearly all known and programmed in advance.
Last minute changes, like going amber for COVID remembrance, can be accomplished through a simple web portal that’s accessible from anywhere. Miranda’s cloud connected nature allows the integrator to easily update programming from anywhere, usually in minutes. The web portal for preset control means that the building owners can change the lighting themselves, without having to physically be in the building, and without having to locate the controls in an accessible place.
In this case, Miranda is the ideal lighting controller: easy for the integrator to install, commission, and maintain, and it provides the building owner with everything they want in their exterior RGB lighting.
